At the end of our day at Fort Ticonderoga, we discovered a bonus: the King’s Garden. The King’s Garden is one of the oldest cultivated gardens in the United States. It’s a quiet space for wandering, and it’s a completely different experience from the grandeur of the fort. The garden wall is anchored at the corner by a teahouse. At first glance (and from the distance of this panorama), it looks pretty good. The closer you get, the more it comes into focus as a ruin. It’s a beautiful structure, and I hope the efforts to restore it are successful. Anyway, the garden itself recreates its 1921 Colonial Revival appearance, with brick pathways and a reflecting pool.
The King’s Garden is nice. Really nice and peaceful. If you tour Fort Ticonderoga, leave yourself time to end up here. Or make this your Ticonderoga destination!
