Haystack Mountain

June 26, 2017 By Dale Bengston

Haystack Mountain State Park looms 1,700 feet over north side of Norfolk, Connecticut. It’s topped with an observation tower built in the late 1920s. The hike up the mountain is not strenuous, and the cool breezes that greet you at the top of the tower are delightful.

According to legend, you can see Vermont, New York and Long Island Sound from the top level of the tower. Maybe on a good day with exceptional eyesight, perfectly clear skies, and a pair of strong binoculars. The view is stunning, whether or not you can make out the fancy destinations in the distance. These are the Southern Berkshires at their best. Plus, it was a great day to be a cloud.

No famous people are immortalized in this shot. There were several with me, but they all managed to stay behind the camera.
